64 UOFLMAGAZINE.COM Reggie Van Stockum, 75GA, 79L, 79GA With an environmental law degree, a master's in biology, a PhD in philosophy and years of experience as an environmental lawyer, Reginald Van Stockum, 75GA, 79L, 79GA, has also ventured into the world of authorship. Van Stockum writes works of fiction that explore a curious future for Kentucky, as well as textbooks that provide education about the flora and fauna of Kentucky and the environmental laws that protect it. Van Stockum wanted to do more than reach future generations through his textbooks, he wanted to reach fellow UofL alumni. Enter "fireside chats" and "porch parleys," where alumni gather at his historic home in Shelby County for passionate and scholarly conversation. His events include well-known speakers and net- working opportunities. Additionally, he has curated a personal museum inside his his- toric home. His holdings include such relics as a 5,000-year-old axe head, an ancient weapon known as an atlatl and hundreds-of- years old drinking apparatuses. Van Stockum continues to pursue discovery in all he does and to share his discoveries with those around him — young, old, and everywhere in between.
