6 feedback UOFLMAGAZINE.COM Not a cover fan The fall 2017 cover image of an unsmiling angry looking man does not warm my heart toward my alma mater. — Helen M. Schilling, 86MD Seeking old friends We both graduated in January 1949, married in 1950. Bill is now 96 and I am 91. We still watch Uof L ball games. We would love to hear from anyone who remem- bers us. If there any people, still alive, I hope they will get in touch. — Warren (Auter), 49A, and Bill, 49B, Fravert Celebrating Dad I just finished an article, called "Seven reasons to celebrate 2017" by Cheyenne Hill. One of the seven highlights in the article was in 1947 when the university's alma mater was created. One of the composers was James Powell, my Dad. It was great to see his name in this article, along with Mr. Newton. Dad was very proud of this honor, although he did not talk much about it. I did not know about the $50 prize until recently when my Mom mentioned it. (Dad passed away in 2008.) My wife and I visited Louisville last October over a long weekend. What a great town! We drove through the university, stopping at the Speed School of Engineering and the Music School. It is a very nice university. The music building was open because there was a concert getting ready to start. I walked around the building and checked out a lot of interesting items on the walls. I was surprised to see that there was nothing on the wall that recognized Dad and Mr. Newton as the writers of the alma mater. (Dad loved music.) I think it would have been nice to see something like that for the importance it seems to have from the article. I just wanted to let you know that our family is very proud of what Dad did in writing the alma mater for the University of Louisville and that I have now seen the university. Thanks! — Tom Powell EDITOR'S NOTE: We're glad to help make connections! If anyone remembers Warren and Bill from their time at UofL, please contact alumni@louisville.edu.
