54 UOFLMAGAZINE.COM Uof L's Belknap Campus has come a long way since the site was the home of a pre-Civil War era reform school and orphanage. Two Uof L employees chronicle Belknap's history in a new book that is part of Arcadia Publishing's "Cam- pus History Series." University of Louisville Belknap Campus, by Tom Owen, Uof L archivist, and Sherri Pawson, senior compliance officer, is now available in the Uof L Bookstore and other retail locations. Eight buildings still exist on campus from the reform school and orphanage, including Ford Hall, Gardiner Hall and Jouett Hall. Along with outlining the campus expansion, the book includes images and stories CAMPUS TALES: NEW BOOK TELLS THE STORY OF BELKNAP of student life over the years, includ- ing homecoming, intramural games, campus hangouts and sports. "The book is a great way for alumni to recall events, activities, and a changing campus," Owen said. "It's the sort of book you pick up and leaf through some pages and then return for some more later. It deepens the connection to Uof L through memory."
