Linehan's work on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) won her the 2017 Grawemeyer Award for psychology. Hope for a better tomorrow and the belief that ideas have the power to change the world prompted H. Charles Grawemeyer to establish the awards program in 1984. Each year since, awards are handed out across five fields: music composition, political science, education, religion and psychology. Linehan and the other 2017 honorees visited UofL in April to accept their prizes and discuss their award-winning ideas. For more information on the 2017 winners, visit
