The outfi elder and fi rst baseman joined the Cincinnati Reds last season in a trade, and in 2016, he became the fi rst former Cardinals player to be named an MLB All-Star. What are your favorite memories of playing baseball at UofL? My favorite memories are playing in the postseason and hosting a regional both years. Playing in front of my hometown crowd was amazing, but the most important thing was sharing the joy of winning with the guys. What is your favorite non-baseball memory of UofL? My favorite non-baseball memory from UofL was graduating. After spending a lot of time on the road the fi rst year, I turned down a request from the Giants GM to play in the winter, so I could fi nish up my degree. As a power hitter, are there home runs in particular that stand out for you, whether at UofL or otherwise? Ha, ha, not really. I enjoy all of them the same, usually with a deep breath as I round the bases. Is there any advice you got from UofL coaches that still resonates with you? The coaches and staff teach you how to be a good person fi rst, how to succeed through hard work, and how to carry yourself. The things I learned will transfer into anything that I do. How closely are you able to follow UofL baseball now, and do you stay in touch with any of the guys? I always follow the team, watching their postseason games in hotels, on buses, everywhere you can think of. I work out with the guys at the fi eld in the offseason, and I enjoy seeing their work pay off. Adam Duvall swinging his special-edition gold Louisville Slugger in the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Petco Park in San Diego. Duvall advanced to the semifi nals of the Derby, competing in the All-Star game the following day. Duvall makes mark on majors What is it like to be playing for the Cincinnati Reds, so close to your friends and family? After spending time on the West Coast, it is very nice being close to home. On off days, I can shoot down to my house and see friends and family. It makes this long season seem a little shorter! How did your career and life in general change when you were diagnosed with diabetes? Do you see yourself as a role model for diabetic kids? I was sick for a while, losing weight and feeling fatigued. When I got my physical results, I was honestly happy to learn the cause and to move forward. I learned a lot about diabetes and now look to get even more involved with the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. It's a good feeling when parents tell me their kid has new hope of doing what they love because of my example. DID YOU KNOW THAT THESE FORMER UOFL BASEBALL PLAYERS ALSO APPEARED IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES THIS SEASON?
