Birds Of A Feather Watch Together Check out UofLAlumni.org/gamewatch for an online guide to out-of-town places to watch games with fellow Cards fans and alums. If you don't see the ACC state you're looking for, contact the club contact (listed below each school in this ACC guide). To buy tickets for away games, call 502.GOCARDS or visit gocards.com/tickets UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME South Bend, IN Mascot: Fighting Irish Road Trip: 4 hours 45 minutes Where the Students Go: Obviously, South Bend has a great selection of Irish pubs. But the one to visit is Fiddler's Hearth — especially on a night when Kennedy's Kitchen is rockin' the house. Pair a pint or a whiskey with an order of Scotch eggs or boxty (potato- pancake-stuffed wonders of goodness). For dinner, try one of their selections of Irish stews or the fish and chips with a side of curry sauce. Blimey, it's good! Famous Traditions: Fun fact about tryouts for The Leprechaun: During the final round each contestant must lead a five-minute mock pep rally, answer questions during an interview with a local media personality, respond to a game situation, answer Notre Dame trivia, dance Notre Dame's version of the Irish Jig, and complete 50 pushups. That's hardcore! While You're There: Walk through 120 vehicles, 114 years and three levels at the Studebaker National Mu- seum. Back in the day, it was the world's largest producer of wagons and buggies. This cozy Irish pub is known for pouring the perfect pint of Guinness (and the free popcorn), but live music is their specialty. Regulars like Galen Crader and Chris Ricker keep the good vibes flowin' well into the evening as the lads and lasses swing their pints in the air and belt out Irish sing-alongs. Famous Traditions: As a tribute to long-time head coach Bud Carson, the Yellow Jacket Marching Band plays "When You Say Budweiser, You've Said It All" at the completion of the third quarter at football games, during the sec- ond half of Tech basketball games, during volleyball matches and during the seventh inning stretch in baseball games. While You're There: Georgia Tech is located on 400 acres in midtown Atlanta, so you're surrounded with things to do. Have a Coke and a smile at The World of Coca-Cola where you can check out galleries of ad campaigns, the bottling process and Coke in pop culture. If you're a news buff, the "Inside CNN Studio Tour" is a must-see. You can even watch a newscast as it occurs! Nearest Alumni Club Contact Louisville Alumni of Atlanta — Bill Spinks — cardsinatl@gmail.com NORTH CAROLINA STATE Raleigh, NC Mascot: Wolfpack Road Trip: 9 hours 4 minutes Where the Students Go: The Carolinians take their BBQ seriously and you can taste it at The Pit, a student and local favorite. Just don't fill up too much on those addictive hushpuppies, and save some room for the carrot cake! If you're in the mood for a brewski, check out the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium. With a Biergarten atmosphere and hundreds of beers on tap, it's bound to deliver good times. Famous Traditions: After a Wolfpack victory, students and fans gather to see the Belltower on campus lit in red at night. And if you really want to blend in, try the "sign of the wolf" — your ring and middle finger meet your thumb, while your index and pinky stick up. While You're There: Raleigh is the city of museums, for sure. Take your pick from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Museum of History, Museum of Art and Raleigh City Museum. In between exhibits, be sure to visit the historic City Market — celebrating 100 years this year — for its awesome selection of restaurants, art and boutiques! Nearest Alumni Club Contact Louisville Alumni of North Carolina Research Triangle — Rhonda Gardner — rhondadgardner@gmail.com UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI Miami, FL Nickname: Hurricanes Road Trip: 15 hours 32 minutes Where the Students Go: While you're down in Miami, it's against the law to not eat Cuban food. The best Cuban eats you can find in the area are served at gems like Villa Habana and Versailles. Also, check out Tobacco Road — notorious as the oldest bar in Miami, serving up greasy hamburgers, cheap beers and soulful live music since 1912. Famous Traditions: At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Miami players and fans can be seen holding up four fingers. The sign indicates their belief that a game is won in that crucial final period and they "own" that last quarter. While You're There: When you're done soaking in the rays on Miami's spectacular beaches, soak in the celebrities watching (and, frankly, playing) a Miami Heat game at the American Airlines Arena. Then, head over to the famous Art Deco District for a dose of architectural eye candy — featuring 800 structures, mostly built between 1923 and 1943, beaming with color and vibrancy.
