And for a beer and a quick bite before or after the game, locals know to stop in The Hokie House, a Blacksburg institution since 1966. Famous Traditions: One of the most popular college mascots, the HokieBird is a prominent part of game day festivities. Not only does he lead the charge onto the football field and perform bench presses on the field after a Virginia Tech score, he's even been known to crowd-surf the student section to the very top of the stadium. Hokie Hokie Hokie Hy! While You're There: The gorgeously restored Lyric Theater shows current and classic movies and hosts an eclectic mix of live music and entertainment. Back on campus, the Hahn Horticulture Garden offers free admission to its lush flower beds, waterfalls, shade beds and steam gardens. Famous Traditions: 100 specially selected students carry a 50-yard-long "Hail to Pitt" flag onto the football field during pre-game ceremonies. Plus, Pitt has an official yell: Alle-genee- genac-genac, Alle-genee-genac-genac, Hoorah-Hoorah, Pitt! While You're There: Check out the Carnegie Science Center & UPMC Sportsworks. After your meal, mosey the 'Hoos. But despite all the hoopin' and hollerin', UVA fans strut some classy attire, so pack your pearls and bow ties if you plan on attending a football game. While You're There: It would be unthinkable to visit Charlottes- ville without a stop at Monticello, the histor- ic home of U.S. president and UVA founder Thomas Jefferson. Outdoorsy types should head over to Shenandoah National Park, where they can hike a beginner-friendly portion of the Appalachian Trail. Famous Traditions: An hour before each home football game, the Orange marching band leads fans from the quad to the Carrier Dome, the largest domed stadium on a college campus. Once down to Top of the Hill, an award-winning restaurant, brewery and distillery where you can enjoy a cold pint on the rooftop patio that overlooks bustling Franklin Street and the edge of Chapel Hill's beautiful campus.
