The College of Education and Human Development professor and former department chair has worked to reduce India's high suicide rate. The award means "Jewel of India" in English and is given to nonresident Indians who make substantial contributions to society. Getting happy on campus Over 250 students/faculty/staff and fans helped to create three videos of Pharrell Williams' "Happy" song—a preview, launch and eight-minute extended version. The videos have over 92,000 views online and have been featured in The Washington Post and other national publications. The extended video was featured on Pharrell's 25hoursofhappy.com website. UofL welcomes fi rst transfer from Simmons College Elementary education major Charlotte Hazelwood became the f rst student to transfer academic credits earned at Simmons College of Kentucky to UofL. In 2010 President James Ramsey and Kevin Cosby, Simmons' president, worked out an agreement that makes it easier for Simmons College students to transfer. In February Simmons, founded in 1879 by 12 former African American slaves, became one of the only historically black colleges to be accredited by the national Association for Biblical Higher Education. Charlotte Hazelwood just completed her fi rst year at UofL. Public health faculty contribute to Surgeon General's 50th anniversary report on smoking Fifty years after the release of the f rst Surgeon General's report on smoking and health, remark- able progress has been made. Since 1964, smoking prevalence among U.S. adults has been reduced by half. Unfortunately, it remains the leading preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the United States. The 50th anniversary Surgeon General's Report, "The Health Consequences of Smoking—50 Years of Progress," was released in January. School of Public Health and Information Sciences faculty Kathy Baumgartner, PhD, Rich- ard Baumgartner, PhD, and Dongyan Yang, MD, MS, along with James Graham Brown Cancer Center postdoctoral scholar Stephanie D.
