E D U Highlights Faculty Spotlight Arun Gadre Breaking the sound barrier Every day, Arun Gadre works to bring sound where there is silence, especially for young children, through the treatment and reversal of hearing loss. Gadre, the HHI Endowed Professor in Otology and Neurotology, was the f rst doctor in Kentucky to implant a pediatric bone-anchored hearing device secured by magnets. He also worked with Kosair Children's Hospital to provide a cochlear implant at no cost to the son of a UofL doctoral student. His skill gives hundreds of children the opportunity to hear their parents sing a lullaby and say, "I love you," for the f rst time. Bringing sound where there once was silence means giving children a better life. U L _ 5 0 5 0 UL_50 50 1 / 2 4 / 1 4 9 : 5 7 A M 1/24/14 9:57 AM
