Alumni Bookshelf Don Caughey, 00A, recently published "The 6th United States Cavalry in the Civil War." It is the first scholarly history of the only regular army cavalry regiment raised during the Civil War. The book relies heavily on primary sources, including diaries and letters of officers and enlisted soldiers alike, to tell the regiment's story in the words of the participants. Mark Clark, 88AS, released "Star Trek FAQ 2.0: everything left to know about the next generation, the movies and beyond." This is the second of a two-book series, picking up where the original "Star Trek FAQ" left off, chronicling the historic comeback of the failed series and its emergence as a pop culture touchstone. Wayne Cornelius, 62GS, published a book titled "Some of My Thoughts." Tonya Griffin, 97B, released her new book, "Eagles, Angels and Butterflies: How We Got Our Wings." This is a diary of strength and a story of incredible hope as a young woman battles the aftershock of a breast cancer diagnosis. Tracy E. K'Meyer, co-director of the Oral History Center, and chair of the Department of History at UofL, exposes the disappointments and benefits of desegregation and draws attention to people who struggled for more than five decades to bring about equality and diversity in her new book, "From Brown to Meredith: The Long Struggle for School Desegregation in Louisville, Kentucky, 1954–2007." Bill McBride, 68A, published "A Pocket Guide to the Identification of First Editions." It is in its 7th edition since 1979 and is widely acknowledged to be the reference guide on this subject. The companion book, "Points of Issue," is the only such reference book covering this subject. Barbara A. Perry, 78A, published "Rose Kennedy: The Life and Times of a Political Matriarch," which explores the personal tragedies and political triumphs of the Kennedy dynasty from the perspective of its maternal leader. Using Rose's recently released personal papers at the JFK Library, Perry illustrates in this definitive biography how Rose created the face of Camelot through her commitment to perfection in appearance, manners and expression. It has 45 rarely seen photos. Perry will speak on Rose Kennedy at Ekstrom Library, Chao Auditorium, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and a book signing will follow. Diane L. Schneider, 84MD, published "The Complete Book of Bone Health," a compilation of everything you need to know about your bone health in one comprehensive book. In the introduction, Schneider states that she wants readers to feel that they are "having a friendly chat," and this is a perfect description of how the book is written. The conversational style makes it an easy and fun read to learn about keeping your bones healthy. Sidney Taylor, 76A, 84GB, publishes under S. Watts Taylor. Over the years, he has written for a variety of magazines and published two novels: "Upper Street" and "Tarnish." He is launching his third novel, "The Tetrarchs." The Kentucky native works in Cincinnati as a quality manager for a metrology laboratory. Books mentioned on the UofL Bookshelf may be found at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other online or local booksellers. Are you a published author in any format?
