Highlights Student Spotlight Brandon Roush Finding his 'Voice' With the press of one oversized round button and the turn of a chair, Latin pop star Shakira changed freshman Brandon Roush's future. The theatre arts major, who was performing on NBC's "The Voice," thought his chance at music stardom was over when none of the judges had selected him for their team about three quarters of the way through his blind audition. Then he belted a high note from The Beatles' classic song "With a Little Help from My Friends." "I think your voice is exquisite," Shakira told him during the show's recorded broadcast. "I love the depth of it in the verses. That high note that you hit completely won me over." Roush, who is in the Louisville band "The Dirty Grindstone," worked with Shakira before losing his Battle Round. "Being mentored by someone who is a Latin pop star was at the opposite end of the spectrum. She gave me a few tips that really helped me out," he said. "She is an awesome person." Brandon and his band have embarked on an east coast tour this summer with a concert DVD set to release in the fall 2013. 46|LOUISVILLE.EDU
