Making it happen With decorated caps and diplomas in hand, nearly 1,800 of the Spring Semester's 3,000 graduates bid a fond farewell to the University of Louisville during Commencement ceremonies on May 14. Overall, more than 1,600 students received bachelor degrees, nearly 900 received master/specialist degrees, and nearly 450 received doctoral or professional degrees. In a unique twist, three of those advanced degrees went to one family as the three Sanders siblings — Sara (medicine), Matt (law) and Jon (social work) — all received professional or master's degrees this year. The Sanders parents and grandparents, all of whom attended UofL and who each received degrees in the same f elds as the Sanders siblings, divvied up the ceremonies. Mom Sharon, 83GK, watched Jon receive his master's in social work while father Chris, 88L, attended the law school ceremony with Matt. Grandparents Marilyn, 58MD, and John accompanied Sara to the medical school ceremony. "Great things, special things, await you as our newest alums," President James Ramsey told graduates at Commencement. "You made it happen here at the University of Louisville, and you will make it happen in your lives, in our community, in our state and beyond in the years to come."
