A lifeline in
dental care
Limited f nancial resources leave many with few options to pay for the cost of
dental care.
At the School of Dentistry, patients seek dental care for a reduced rate as
students learn under the instruction of licensed practitioners. As a teaching
dental facility, the school must maintain a constant pool of patients so students
can fulf ll their clinical experiences and acquire the necessary skills to succeed as
dental care providers.
Still, cost is a burden for many, and the Compassionate Care Fund is aimed
at providing a f nancial lifeline to assist some patients in need.
"Without this type of fund, the benef ciaries would have been unable to
afford the cost of crowns and bridge work, partial or complete dentures, and
deep cleanings — some of which were needed in order to proceed through the
sequence of planned treatments and achieve treatment goals," said Babatunde
Agbola, School of Dentistry May 2016 graduate.
The Compassionate Care Fund, initiated through the private RSMIS
Foundation, provides a winning opportunity for patients to receive f nancial
assistance for dental treatment, for students to learn and acquire hands-on skills,
for the school to maintain a consistent pool of patients in the clinics, and for
donors to know their resources are going to a good cause.
