Fall 2015 Issue
Now and Then: Ekstrom Library
"My f rst real job out of high school was a student assistant
in the circulation department at Ekstrom Library. Little did
I know that I would spend the next 15 years working in
some capacity or another at the library. After two-and-
a-half years as a student assistant, I was hired full time as
the stacks manager. I was later promoted to head of support
services. I was able to work on my degree and work full
time. At the time my immediate family all relocated to
Florida, so the staff and faculty at the library became my
extended family. I really enjoyed going to work every day.
It was nice to see the new look of the library."
–Mike Trauth, 95A
Imagine UofL…
"Back when I was entering
college and was reviewing the
course catalogues I remember
that at the time UofL was
considered a "metro" school
and limited in branches of
study. …What I found lacking
was any form of agriculture
or animal husbandry courses
– even though there was, or
should have been, some sort
of class structure for this area
of study given the closeness
of rural farming communities
to the university. …It would
be a great boon for the school
if by 2026, when the FFA
[Future Farmers of America]
is already considering a return
to Louisville for its national
convention destination, it
would be great to maybe offer
visits to the new University of
Louisville school of agriculture
and animal husbandry area.
…Imagine UofL as a great
agriculture school as well as
engineering, law, medical,
business, education, and music."
