Growing the Cardinals family Virginia Stiver, 48A When it came time to celebrate Ginny (Virginia) Stiver's 90th birthday, she told her family she had a special request: to visit her alma mater. Stiver traveled back to UofL in November for a tour of the campus she left after graduating in June 1948 with a degree in home economics. Despite the drastic growth of campus, there were still a few places she recognized, among them Grawemeyer Hall, Gardiner Hall — where she took a sociology class — and the Playhouse. Stiver also visited the Navy V-12 memorial outside Schneider Hall and remembered the Navy men she took classes with as they trained to be commissioned off cers in World War II. Stiver went on to receive her graduate degree in bio- chemistry from the University of Tennessee, and she worked as a registered dietician in Ohio for 30 years. But UofL still holds a special place in her heart. "This trip brought back memories of days gone by," she said. "I'm impressed with the growth and progress at UofL."
