Last month, the board elected a new president, Tony Fortwen- gler, making this an ideal time to ref ect on recent progress made by our organization. Perhaps our biggest board accomplishment was the passage of a new organizational structure and by-laws. This is a signif cant accomplishment — it alters the direction of the Alumni Association and allows us to focus more on making an impact through outreach. The new structure makes our organization more dynamic, f exible, and self-suff cient. Great progress has been made in private gifts to the Alumni Association, and new corporate partnerships. We must con- tinue, however, to broaden the scope of our programs and services to increase the engagement of our alumni. We look to f nd innovative ways to engage alumni by offering unique opportunities to build upon their university experience. There is a contingent of graduates of the University of Lou- isville whose academic interests we have not yet fully engaged through our activities. For so many of us, the friends we made here, and the professors who taught us, are the reason for our love of the university. They, and the education I received here, are the reason that I have served in the alumni organization. This past May, we added the Class of 2014 to our Alumni Association. If this is the f rst time you're reading this magazine as a graduate, my advice is to never stop looking to the univer- sity as part of your community. Get involved with the Alumni Association, come to our events, submit your class notes for this magazine, and participate in university-wide activities. Your relationship with the University of Louisville is lifelong, and I hope it will be the basis of a very successful life and career.
