Historical ACCess Located less than a mile from campus, the Filson Historical Society is a treasure trove of more than 1.8 million documents and artifacts chronicling the region's rich and colorful history. Scholars from all over the world apply for a coveted Filson Fellowship, which puts nearly 300 years of frontier, antebellum and Civil War history right at their f ngertips. History associate professor and Filson Research Director Glenn Crothers, PhD is part of the fellowships panel and applauds UofL's entrance into the Atlantic Coast Conference, indicating this development will only solidify a research relationship that has been building for years. According to Crothers, Louisville has become a premiere destination for ACC researchers, with more than 30 ACC stu- dents and faculty earning the prestigious fellowship over the last several years. "We've received a very strong response from ACC schools, with 12 of the 14 institutions represented as Filson Fellows, including recent recipients from Georgia Tech, Virginia and Notre Dame," Croth- ers said. "These are great schools with renowned history departments. For UofL and the Filson to be connected with these institutions only benef ts our academic reputations."
