Gifted freshmen Fresh start UofL is on a roll and shows no signs of slowing down, ushering in the 2013-14 school year with the university's largest and most academically gifted freshman class in school history. Not only does the incoming class post an average ACT score of 25.2 and a 3.5 GPA, but it also features 20 National Merit Scholars and 194 Governor's Scholars. It is also one of the most diverse, boasting more African-American and Latino/Hispanic students than ever before. UofL's future is changing right before our eyes, and that future looks bright. UofL's Offce of First Year Initiatives (FYI) is working overtime to make sure new students have everything they need the moment they step on campus. During the summer, each new student is assigned an upperclassman mentor to help them develop the fundamental skills, institutional 14|LOUISVILLE.EDU knowledge and personal connections essential for a successful college career. First Year Initiatives also assigns a Book In Common to read and discuss, and is also working in tandem with other student and university organizations to keep new students engaged throughout the year.
