Class Notes Awards Program highlights and honors REALTORS® that conduct commercial transactions who have distinguished themselves in their communities. Cathy Fyock, 85B, is senior human resources/ business adviser with Kushner & Company, an HR/ benefits firm that helps organizations transform their workplaces through a continuum of HR and business services. In this role, she leads business development initiatives throughout Kentucky, Indiana and beyond, as well as delivering a range of OD/HR services. Fyock has written five books, including the award-winning "The Truth about Hiring the Best." Before joining Kushner & Company, she led her own company — Innovative Management Concepts — for more than 20 years. She served on the national seminar faculty for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for more than 15 years, and continues to provide keynotes and seminar programs on strategic leadership, talent acquisition and engagement, and aging workforce. Fyock is chair of the Kentucky SHRM Council, providing leadership to more than 3,500 HR professionals within the commonwealth. She is a National Speakers Association Certified Speaking Professional and is lifetime certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources. 1990s Business First recently ranked Louisville Geek, owned and operated by managing partner Erik Eckel, 90A, Bobby Bailey, 01B, and two other partners, as the fourth-fastest growing independent, privately held organization in the Greater Louisville area. To qualify for the Business First Fast 50 competition, companies must, among other things, be independent, for-profit and privately held; have an average of at least $1 million in revenue for the three most recent years; and have a threeyear operating sales history. Camille Barbee Olmstead, 95A, is an adjunct professor at Bellarmine and DeVry Universities. She took students on a humanitarian mission to South Africa, in an effort to promote awareness and raise funds to support disadvantaged schoolchildren. Olmstead was overwhelmed by the spirit of the African people in the face of utter poverty and violence and organized this undertaking after being inspired by the late J. Blaine Hudson, former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. David L. Barnett, 96GE, 08GE, is senior vice president and chief financial officer for Brenau University. It is the university's second-highest post. Barnett earned a PhD in educational leadership and organizational development from UofL in 2008 and an education specialist graduate degree from UofL in 1996. Thomas E. Lambert, 97GB, is assistant professor of public administration and policy in the Master of Public Administration program at Northern Kentucky University. Larry Seligman, 90S, has been promoted to vice president, Advanced Consumer Analytics at InterContinental Hotels Group. He is based in Atlanta. R. Brent Summers, 99GA, is the assistant dean of the Pott College of Science and Engineering and associate professor of biology at the University of Southern Indiana. He also is the program director of the Baccalaureate/Doctor of Medicine program, adviser to students in pre-medicine and co-coordinator of the Presidential Scholar program. Summers is a member of the Indiana Academy of Science where he serves as the liaison to the American Association for the Advancement of Science and to the National Association of Academies of Science. 2000s Laura Inman, 00MU, a soprano with the Phoenix Chorale, recently joined with members of the Kansas City Chorale to win two Grammys for their recording, "Life and Breath". Laura has spent 11 seasons with the Phoenix Chorale as a soprano and holds a master's and doctorate in conducting at Arizona State University. She is currently an assistant professor of choral music at Georgia Institute of Technology. Jennifer Renner, 01MU, formerly manager of development for the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Rebecca Chism, 91GE, associate professor of foreign language pedagogy at Kent State University, was a finalist for the Kent State Alumni Association 2012 Distinguished Teaching Award. Chism uses examples from her own studies and experiences to increase student understanding. Students in her classes learn through experience, as she often asks them to perform teaching lessons on the spot. 56|LOUISVILLE.EDU now is acting director of development and external affairs for the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Bert Kremer, 02E, co-owner of ProFormance Fitness with Carrie Cox, 05GE, merged business interests with veteran fitness guru Carlos Rivas, 99GE, in January. Barry D. Denton, 04A, has been appointed as the executive director of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation. Tracy Harris, 00N, has been named director of communications for Oldham County (Ky.) Schools. She holds a BA in communications from UofL and received all three public relations certifications offered by the department as well as the integrated communications certification. She was an awardwinning reporter at The Oldham Era, recognized four times, including a first-place showing for investigative journalism. Growing the Cardinal Family Susan Wishnia, 04MD, gave birth to her frst child, Lily Freeman, on Jan. 27, 2012. She also completed her minimally massive and bariatric surgery fellowship in July 2012. LaCrecia Daunhauer and Jonathan Israel, 98E, 99GE, welcomed their newest addition, Jonathan Emmanuel, April 2, 2013, at the University of Louisville Hospital. "Just in time to make the Men's Final Four!" said Israel, a member of the 1995–98 men's basketball team and graduate assistant to the men's program in 1999 and 2000. Proud parents Liza and Grant Petty, 97GM, 01MD, welcomed their daughter, Kathryn "Kat" Ligon Petty, July 18, 2012, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Although offcially a South Carolina Gamecock, Liza has been converted to a Cardinals fan, and follows them as much as Grant does. Send us your stories, photos, newborns and weddings. We want to know!
