Spotlight Simmons College Partnership
As a part of the Signature Partnership
Initiative, UofL and Simmons College
of Kentucky have developed a signifcant collaboration aimed at fostering
access to higher education for underserved areas in West Louisville.
The agreement allows students at
Simmons and UofL to co-register in
general education courses for credit
toward a degree at either university.
Several UofL faculty members participate in the outreach program, teaching
classes at both campuses.
"Simmons has taken on the task of
educating students in one of the poorest
ZIP codes in the country," said Ralph Fitzpatrick, UofL associate vice president for
community engagement. "Education is the
cornerstone to a better quality of life, and
this partnership allows us to play a part in
providing the road map to a better future."
Biology faculty member Holly Swain Ewald is
one of several teachers participating in the UofL/
Simmons College cooperative partnership.
