Student Spotlight Brandon Roush
Finding his 'Voice'
With the press of one oversized round
button and the turn of a chair, Latin
pop star Shakira changed freshman
Brandon Roush's future.
The theatre arts major, who was
performing on NBC's "The Voice,"
thought his chance at music stardom
was over when none of the judges
had selected him for their team about
three quarters of the way through his
Then he belted a high note from
The Beatles' classic song "With a Little
Help from My Friends."
"I think your voice is exquisite,"
Shakira told him during the show's
recorded broadcast. "I love the depth
of it in the verses. That high note that
you hit completely won me over."
Roush, who is in the Louisville band
"The Dirty Grindstone," worked with
Shakira before losing his Battle Round.
"Being mentored by someone who is
a Latin pop star was at the opposite end
of the spectrum. She gave me a few tips
that really helped me out," he said.
"She is an awesome person."
Brandon and his band have embarked
on an east coast tour this summer with a
concert DVD set to release in the fall 2013.
